We recently rescued two sad cases from euthanization: Shasta, a 1-year-old Great Dane, and Banff a 1-year-old German Shepherd X. To contribute to their rescue fund, please click here.
Shasta came to us weighing in at a mere 72 pounds (she should weigh closer to 110 lbs), dizzy on her feet and so dehydrated that her skin stayed upright when lightly pinched. We weren't sure she would make it, but we hospitalized her immediately and put her on IV support. After four days in the hospital, she was recovered enough to be discharged into the care of her foster, and now is on the long journey back to health.
The same day that Shasta was discharged, Banff came to us severely ill. He was emaciated and weak, and unstable on his feet. He had severe kennel cough, and was blowing green discharge from his nose. He too was hospitalized for four days, and then discharged into the care of his foster, where he's made a wonderful recovery and is now ready for adoption by his forever home <3.
We're asking our community to help us pay for the emergency care that these two lovely souls received. The total vet bill was $1209.41; Fundrazr and Stripe take a combined 8% of the amount raised on the Fundrazr platform, which means we need to raise $1307 to cover the cost of care.
HELP US HELP THEM
Working to get abandoned and sick dogs back on their feet and into loving homes is frequently heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking, and often expensive. All of our rescues are vetted upon entering the rescue, and all of them enter our spay and neuter program. Per our vet's recommendations, all of our dogs are we vaccinated, de-wormed, and treated for ecto-parasites and kennel cough. More serious conditions receive additional vet care. We also like to get second opinions, often from specialists, for invasive or specialized procedures.
Our rescue seeks, within our budget, the maximum vet care for our dogs. We're grateful to receive a discounted rate for many treatments and procedures thanks to our relationships with our vets. We often solicit public funds for expensive vet care that may over-stretch what little income the rescue has. Our funds are modest and not limitless, but we do not euthanize animals because we cannot afford their treatment. We just would never do this. We love them. Nor do we permit a dog to languish in pain or suffering because his/her treatment is too expensive. We would never do this either. We mobilize. We fundraise. Often, we reach into our own pockets to get things done.
We are never going to change the world with our small rescue efforts, but we hope and pray that with the animals we do rescue that we change their lives for the better forever.
Your gift will help us save sick, abused, and abandoned dogs, and find them loving forever homes.
